Do You Honestly Want A Profitable Public Speaking Business?

October 29th, 2009

Virtually everyone I speak to in the public speaking business these days is struggling with the recession and its effects on the meetings marketplace. For so long now the public speaking business was limited to the speaking opportunities on the platform but that is not the case anymore.

History shows us that it is in recessions when some really great foundations are laid upon which great businesses are built. With just a few small changes your public speaking business can be positioned for amazing profits and success.

The first thing to consider is that in the Internet marketing world, you can find people who are searching for your unique view on your niche. These people may or may not live in the US, they may be living all over the world. But now you can find them, you can build relationships with them which could cause them to want to own your books, audios, videos, seminars or whatever else you’ve created. This is a very exciting opportunity!

Next is that in the content world we live in, there are people who attend your presentation who will want to hear your message again or share it with friends. This means you have to record every talk you give so that you have it available. Some people would gladly buy the recording but perhaps a better strategy is to give it as a gift to anyone who will provide you with their email address. This allows you to stay in touch and market to them later.

A third thing to consider is that when you are attracting audiences who will most likely never hear you speak in person that you have a powerful Internet presence. Your website must be alive with fresh content. This means that you’ll want to be using online video, offer your thoughts and ideas through a blog and become good at using social media marketing to find interested prospects for your unique message.

In conclusion, you should know that even though there are fewer speaking engagements than you are used to there are actually more opportunities to find, attract and build relationships with people who are searching for information on your niche topic. This opens the door to a very profitable product based public speaking business, with less travel and more nights at home with loved ones.
